Yoga Therapy for Every Body

Trauma - informed Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy to connect to your wisdom for residents of California

Traditional talk therapy has helped, but you want something different to help guide you to more happiness and meaning in life because worries and stress keep getting in the way. You worry about being a good parent (plant, animal, or human), or partner, doing enough at work, at school, or around the house, and you can’t get it out of your head that you just don’t actually deserve to feel happy or fulfilled. You wonder if you should just stop trying.

After all, your female, queer and/or trans self is too different from those around you. You are not flexible. You’re religious. You can’t seem to focus like others can. You’re everything that the rest of the world isn’t and you wish somehow that you can either learn to be like everyone else or accept that you will never be truly happy.

I’m Abi Weissman, Psy.D., a San Diego, California - based clinical psychologist, and a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. I help LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent people turn to their bodies through therapy to uncover their stored up emotions that never seem to surface in talk therapy.

Connecting with your body
I help people who are disconnected from their body and their happiness, to reconnect to themselves, and their needs. I support a client’s journey through a 6 phase process of movement, breathwork, and guided meditation designed to listen closely to your body and learn how to prioritize your needs over the wants of your mind. With Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, you can learn to feel at home in your body, trusting that you know what you want, and learning how to get your needs met.

Weekly support for each body
My clients tend to see me weekly so that they can have consistent practice in growing closer to their body’s wisdom and support in achieving their life’s purpose. I will integrate trauma-informed and knowledgeable breathing techniques, body movement, and guided meditation into sessions to help access your inner wisdom. All bodies are welcome in this individualized treatment designed for you. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy can be just what you need; a time focused on you and only you.

They offer:

Individual Yoga Therapy to connect people to their bodies. To fully heal, one must heal their bodies as well as their minds. That’s why, while talk therapy can be a wonderful way to start the healing process, Abi offers yoga therapy and EMDR to help heal the body as well.

For talk therapists:
Abi has completed her practicum in Group Therapy and is now collecting people for a therapy group. For information about the Spring 2023 group, please see Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy group: Connecting, One Moment At A Time, To get on the interest list for another group for talk therapists, please email Abi at yogatherapy@wavespsych.com .

Couples/ Relationship Therapy:
Couples and Relationship therapy is a great way to get one’s romantic and/or sexual and/or affectional relationship back on track or stronger than before. Yoga Therapy helps people connect through the body and couples/ relational yoga therapy is a chance to learn about how to trust one’s partner(s) through physical movement. This wonderful service is offered online and is appropriate for couples who have decided to stay in a relationship and want to enhance their committment to each other.

It is not appropriate for those who are trying to decide if they should stay. Those questions are best left for a traditional talk therapist, like Dr. Camilla Williams.

To get started feeling more connected to your partner or partners, please set up a consultation at https://doctorabi.clientsecure.me/ .

Life Mentoring:
Life Mentoring occurs when one person comes to Yoga Therapy looking to reach a specific goal. Perhaps the goal is meditate daily or practice shapes (also called asana or poses) more often. Maybe it’s a reclaiming of one’s body through a commitment to movement. Life mentoring is often about 8 sessions long. The focus is on the person’s goal and the client and the Yoga Therapist co-create homework for the client to complete between sessions. The sessions end when the clients have met their goals or have decided that they want to keep exploring with other goals.
