Updates: San Diego Pride 2023

Abi here. You know, the founder of Waves? It’s me and I’m thrilled to share some updates at Waves!

We had a blast at SheFest! Thank you to the organizers for supporting us being there! Kelly Hutton, LMFT (she/her/hers) and I (Dr. Abi Weissman, they and she) were thrilled to connect with you.

We are so grateful to all who came out to share in the joy of the festival. We met so many people. We reconnected with old friends and we met new ones. We’ve loved hearing your ways that you “ride the wave” of your life and are eager to hear more ways you get through the tough times and celebrate the good ones too. We totally appreciate those who spent time coloring with us, sitting and reading some of our favorite kids’ books, and otherwise chatting with us. Oh and we loved seeing how much all y’all enjoyed finding your favorite fidget and/or sticker to add to your collection. As Dr. Camilla Williams (she/her/her) who is fluent in American Sign Language wasn’t at SheFest, we had white boards for people to write on and communicate with us.

Clinician connections

We’d also love to connect with the clinicians that said hi to us at our booth. Some of you were looking forward to connecting with us over coffee. We want to learn more about you and how you make your way in the clinical world. We’d love to meet up with you! If you put your name down on the mailing list and haven’t heard from us, please please email us at office@wavespsych.com .There were a few people’s emails who bounced and we don’t want to miss the chance to connect with you.

We, at Waves, want to connect with other therapists. We are not in competition with other clinicians. For instance, we try not to have a waiting list at Waves, because we want each person who appropaches us for care to get the best possible support out there as soon as possible. So, if we think a potential client would be best served elsewhere, we’ll let them know and try to connect them with someone who has a specialty in that area of practice. Many therapists are not generalists these days; most have particular areas of work in which they excel. We don’t guarantee therapist - client matches because that’s impossible. We do however, try our best to find wonderful resources for those who contact us who we won’t do our best work with. After all, we want our clients to get better, right? That means that we need to connect with all sorts of psychotherapists and expand our network of good people. That’s where these coffee gatherings really help us. We want to learn what others are doing out there. We want to learn if there are needs that aren’t being met that we can assist with. We want to see how we can collaborate, and we love, like super love, meeting new people, especially those who have similar values. For more about our values, please visit Our Values page .

New opportunities at Waves and with Waves

Some of our booth visitors were looking for new jobs or volunteer opportunities with Waves. We were super excited to learn of your interest. Whether you are an associate or a licensed provider or want to help us with social media or be a peer counselor, we would love to hear from you. Please send us a cover letter stating what kind of position with Waves would make you the happiest; why you want to work for us at Waves, an LGBTQIQAP2+-centered mental health group practice, and your CV or resume to office@wavespsych.com and we’ll take a close and thoughtful look at what you send.

Maybe you want to meet and talk about career opportunities in general in the field or interview one of us or all of us for your podcast or newsletter; we’d be happy to connect and talk more about those possibilities too. We love supporting newcomers to the field and enjoy sharing about the work we adore so much.

Keshet’s “Another Jew For LGBTQ Equality” sign is Attached to the front of our SheFest 2023 Booth. Our Waves’ Banner hangs behind and to the right of it.

The book, Transkeit

While we were at the booth, some of you noticed the book, Transkeit and asked us for copies of it. Here’s the link to the blog post about how to get  the paperback version . The book is on amazon dot com at but you can purchase it for much less money directly from the publisher.
