Being Trans: Personally and Professionally
Personally
Personally
I find it difficult to be trans identifying at this momemt. Personally that is.
At times, I want to curl into a ball, and put the covers over me, and escape from the world around me.
At other times, I feel ready to venture out of my corner and slightly into the world. That’s when I check my social media or check out a recent article from Williams Institute.
Sometimes, I meet up with friends for lunch or coffee or a walk. I try to remember that while I am so scared about the US government and its focus on restricting or eliminating trans rights and our existence, I remember that not everyone else knows this is happening, truly and deeply.
A relative recently asked me if I’ll visit them a lot if they move to Florida and I said, absolutely not, it’s not safe for me. They were utterly shocked. They tried to refute this. I don’t think they meant anything by it, they just didn’t get that while they were talking about me being mugged or murdered, I was talking about not having any rights in Florida, even if the happiest place in the world (Disney world) was still there. I remember hanging up the phone and retreating back into my little corner and reading something about trans joy while taking a few minutes to breathe deeply.
Professionally
Professionally, I am so proud to be a trans, enby, and intersex clinician at this time. I cannot wait to support my community. I’m gungho and cheerful and ready to fight my way through any laws that could harm my clients. I’m ready to hold space for folks who need time to figure out how they feel or to grieve for the (continued) loss of safety or security. Maybe they want to get through their own pasts utilizing EMDR in order to make it through this time stronger than ever before. Or maybe, yoga therapy is right for them. Whether they want to meet in person or online, I am honored that clients share their most vulnerable selves with me. What a hard thing to do!
I do want to make it clear that while I love my job and I feel honored to do it, I do charge for my services as a psychologist. It is my career and in order to be able to live in our capitalist society, I charge a fee to work with me. While I wish that I could give my services away for free, and still live here in San Diego, I can’t. I work for myself, or, more specifically, for my company, Waves. I love what I do, try to give back to my community, and I need to charge money so that my family (human and plant) is fed and watered properly and that our own needs are met.
Please feel free to reach out should you need support.

About Our 15 Minute Free Consultation time
Please note that this is not a first appointment, as you have not signed consent forms stating that we are your therapists and you, our clients. This consultation time is a way for you to ask any questions about how we work or who we are and for us to see if we can be of help to you. If you decide to work with us and sign the consent forms allowing us to work with you, the next appointment would be our first official clinical appointment.
